Okay, I have let the month of May get towards its end, and MANY things have transpired since I went on my last BLOG rant!.

Detroit Mayoral [special] Elections:

Businessman Dave Bing [  ] overtakes incumbent (interim) mayor Kenneth Cockrel Jr. I think Detroiters got the man they really wanted for the current times here in the “D”. The former Detroit Pistons, and NBA great ran on a similar platform as Barack Obama, and that is……C-H-A-N-G-E !!  Whether we actually SEE that change is, of course, ANOTHER story. But it was obvious city residents were tired of the ‘business-as-usual’ going on down at the Coleman A. Young building. I think Mr. Cockrel did as good a job as should have been expected, considering what he inherited. The voter turnout was, how you say?  L-I-G-H-T!, but what did you expect?? THREE elections ( one more coming this Fall to win a FOUR-YEAR term), has really worn thin on city residents, but it HAD to be done!     What kind of job will Mr. Bing do? Who knows [ the next topic will touch on THAT...a little ].

Is Bing EXPECTED to complete COBO Deal?   I really feel like MANY Detroiters are expecting the new mayor to just come in with all his successful business acumen, and ‘magically’ snap his fingers to get the long-stalled, OFTEN-ADVERSARILY FOUGHT Cobo Center deal done, after our ‘TOOL’ of a City Council,  tommy-gunned down the initial deal.  Mr. Bing, confidently says he’ll get it done, and has already reached out to the council’s number ONE nemesis, Oakland County exec, L. Brooks Patterson. Any negotiations, have, so far, been very quiet, so HOPEFULLY, that means some progress is being made. Should any of  us REALLY expect the new mayor to  make this thing happen? Technically, YES, but we should understand WHO is in the mix. As long as City Council has to be appeased, then this could be difficult, at best. The issue from their prespective, is to maintain city CONTROL over the out-dated facility. Mr. Bing says he’ll get the deal done even with those demands. We’ll see. But, now, there’s even STRONGER talk of taking the North American International Auto Show [ NAIAS ] to the much-smaller, but likely EXPANDED,  Rock Financial Center in Novi  >>>>>     <<<   if our city leaders don’t get this done.   My gut feeling?  Better get used to a little longer drive out to Oakland County to see all the latest vehicles come January, in the ‘1O. I’m just sayin’ !!

 DPS Latest Scandal:  Okay! THIS…is really becoming a LOT more obvious that our public schools system is is HORRIBLE condition, and has been tragically-POORLY run  for a long, long, time. The  latest money scandal involving some high-ranking officials just further illustrates the unenviable task of Robert Bobb   []. He has already taken drastic steps, by closing down numerous, underperforming, poorly-run schools and making even MORE empty buildings, and, Bobb has made many recommendations that local officials have fought against for years. I, personally, like the attitude of which Mr. Bobb displayed, when responding to the latest embarrassment. He says…”It’s time for ALL  RATS   [   ]   to get OUT of  the DPS!!”  He, along with Mr. Bing, have a MONUMENTAL task in trying to turn things around in this city, and point us in a BETTER direction. Let’s ALL hope and PRAY!!

Auto Dealerships Closing:  The fallout from the crisis that IS the Big Three has, undoubtedly thrown things here into a swirling mess. 15 Detroit area Chrysler-Jeep dealers shut down, after the company filed BANKRUPTCY following more government bailout money given to them. The continued cutting, under the guise of ‘REORGANIZATION’, is just another horrific event of change, which will certainly apply a rolling, financial, Bruce Lee [  ] type KICK to the groin!!  For this area? it could wipe out a good-size number of people who live and worked here. Paid for property, and the taxes. More lost revenues for an area that is ALREADY, uncontrollably bleeding financially.   I mean, there are some well-known and respected dealers the Metro Detroit area who are being shut down. That rolling ‘economical” affect? ALL of those dealers advertise, on radio and TV. They don’t advertise?? Sales revenue is tore-OUT the frame!!  Sales revenue hit? JOBS hit.  On the immediate financial tip? It is going to to be an opportunity to get a GOOD consumer deal on the inventory, if you want Chrysler product. Or? If you can even AFFORD anyone’s product!!. The smaller dealers are really getting trans-axle SCREWED in this shakedown, so don’t expect the most ‘PLEASANT’ sales associates when, or IF you DO go buy some wheels. You see? They’re losing their gigs.

What!??  No ‘Pony-ack?’   [ as my uncle Fletcher used to call them! ]

Son-of-a-b**ch!! Pontiac is gone!? CHANGE often means — subtraction. In General Motors’ mess of change and transition, we lose a heritage auto brand, so deeply encrusted into the American core. There won’t be any more vehicles from the brand that gave us;

 the FIREBIRD:   [  ]   –>> the GTO [   ] the Bonneville, the LeMans, the FIERO   [   ] , and the Grand Am. Pontiac shaped itself as GM’s “performance” division. It’s another piece of Detroit —- gone!  Such a shame!   CHANGE can really hurt!

PISTONS:                It would have been nice if the A.I. experiment had worked. But, honestly, did anyone REALLY expect it to?  The ‘SQUARE-PEG’ -Iverson,      just didn’t fit into the ROUND-HOLE - the Pistons, no matter WHAT, and HOW anyone may have wanted it to. So, now Iverson, and his $20-some MILLION a year salary comes OFF Pistons books [ along with Rasheed's $13 mill, or so ]. Now? team president, Joe Dumars has to try and spend that free $$…WISELY, and rebuild this proud franchise, literally ON-THE-FLY!  It just would have nice if at LEAST Iverson had been STRAIGHT-UP and honest about adjusting his way of playing to better FIT. But? what did we hear? ….” I’ll do whatever it takes….As long as I can contribute, and get a chance at a championship…..   blah!blah, blase’ blase’!   Oh brother! Turned out to be a bunch of broken promises, shattered hopes, and dashed dreams.  What next for DEEEE-TROYT BAS-KET BALLLL!!??  — Changes, reorganization [ sound a little familiar? ]

Another NBA basketball note of irritation to meWhat is with all this ASS-KISSING   of this kid who plays pro ball in Ohio?   Okay, granted, the young man is talented, got mad- stupid, crazy game, and is one of the best players in today’s NBA. But? he hasn’t won a THING!  No bling! [ and...the way it looks as this BLOG is being written? He aint gonna hoist any NBA Championship trophy this year either! ]  The kind of respect, adulation, CORONATION,  out-and-out ASS-KISSING >> this is BOOTLICKIN’ -just as bad >>  << That  I see foisted on him by the media [ YES, our own local medis is just as guilty!! ] is really sickening!  Shouldn’t the kid actually WIN a ring or two, before we start calling him the BEST EVER!!?       NO, I’m not HATIN”, as much as I’m realistically trying to figure out this WHO-HAH!!  Lebron has won as many NBA Championships as a DEAD PERSON!!  Enough already!  People??  Get a grip!

The TIGERS:    I take back what I wrote a couple blogs ago. This team has a legitimate shot at winning the AL Central. Why? I’m seeing resemblances of the ‘O6 team’s success. Good pitching [ they're statistically among the leaders in Major League baseball ]. They hit the daylights out of the ball, and they’re being helped by not-so-strong competition in the division. The lower third of the batting order is producing. Third baseman, Brandon Inge is sparkling with his glove, and he has found a nice hitting stroke, with power. He’s teamed on that left side, with slick-fielding shortstop Adam Everett, and the team doesn’t lose much with the glove whenever utility man Ramon Santiago plays there either. Skipper, Jim Leyland is also making the right moves by inserting the kids [ INF/OF Jeff Larish, OF'er Clete Thomas, OF'er Josh Anderson, and young pitchers, Rick Porcello, and Ryan Perry ] into key spots, and they are producing. So far? Not bad!!  Young ace starting pitcher, Justin Verlander has gotten back on track, and has pitched lights out lately. Righthanded starter, Edwin Jackson also has been superb. There are some questions remainubg unanswered, like; is lefty pitcher, Dontrelle Willis really straight? He finally actually won a game recently, and didn’t look bad doing it. Will righthander Jeremy Bonderman give them anything when he gets back from his injury rehab?  There could actually be a meaningful game or two at CoPa in September. I feel good about that!

We did a video over TWO YEARS AGO that basically SPOOFED our afternoon Traffic Reports. For some reason, it never made it to our web page [ I guess someone felt you all couldn't handle it?  --shrugging shoulders ] It’s called the “Pirated Traffic Video”. It features me, Sandy [ when I reported Traffic on her old afternoon show ], and a cameo appearance by our evening host, Jon Bond. We were just goofin’ around, but it came out pretty well. Now? for the FIRST TIME [ for non-users of FACEBOOK, because that's the only other place anybody could see it....until now ]    Wait!! wait!!  There is also a NEVER-BEFORE SEEN video that I call …”Doin’ the “D” Unplugged” It’s about Jon, event team member, David Hull, and myself, as we jaunted down to the MGM Grand Hotel, downtown Detroit, for the Don Davis birthday bash!! We lost a great person recently, as jazz musician, and former NBA star Wayman Tisdale lost a gallant battle to cancer.  I was fortunate to have come in contact with Mr. Tisdale, twice. Once, while he was being interviewed on the air here at V98.7, and the other time is pictured here >>>>     at Smooth Jazz fest ‘O6 in Southfield.

Wayman was a gentle giant. A preacher’s kid from Oklahoma, who never forgot his beginnings. He touched so MANY with his music, which came after his successes on the basketball court, including an Olympic Gold Medal! He fought until he could not fight anymore!  God is resting your soul Wayman, but your SPIRIT endures!!

Well….what can I say? I took a ‘flyer’ on April ( sort of ), mainly to allow some things to develop and for me to convey thoughts, so here goes. 

THE PISTONS: 

 It’s over!  A nice run from the start of the new millenium till now. The four-game sweep by the Cleveland LeBron-valiers in the opening round of these NBA playoffs signifies and end of the ‘Goin’ to Work’ Pistons!  What can we GET from ALL this? The shop-worn nucleus of this team will be gone. It already began when guard Chauncey Billups was dealt at the beginning of this recently completed season. It was already established that the move team President, Joe Dumars made was more for clearing of salary cap space, and anything the team got from it would be, at BEST……a bonus. Well, how about a sub-500 regular season record. An eighth-place Eastern Conference finish. Both, something we had not experienced since the first George W. Bush administration!! So what now?  Here’s what I think ( and MANY others ) will happen.

Future Hall of Fame guard Allen Iverson    will become somebody ELSE’S problem. Iverson should really NOT to be TOTALLY blamed for the Pistons’ downfall. He just DIDN’T fit into the scheme of things. And, it was REALLY asking a LOT of even him for any of us to have expected that.  I just wish he would have been TRUTHFUL and said he wasn’t going to try and come off the bench while he was here. It could have saved everyone from remotely believing it was going to work.   Forward Rasheed Wallace is a restricted free agent, and G-O-N-E, gone …GONE!! . His last two seasons here have been a total waste. Personally? I think he’s DONE as a significant player for ANY team. Did I mention that ‘Sheed will be gone??  I think forward Tayshaun Prince    could be/WILL BE… dealt in the off-season. The young man has played a LOT of games and LOGGED A LOT of game minutes since he got here, he has a LOT of mileage on his tires, and he appears to be on the ‘down-side’ of his productivity. NOW, might be the time to sever ties. I feel really bad for forward Antonio McDyess    He played his guts out this season after declining to join any other team following the trade, and it ends like this. I really HOPE, if he decides to play another season, that he can hook-up with a team in better shape to seriously contend. ‘Dyess is a class act, all the way. So ….it’s the hope of probably ALL Pistons’ faithful, that Joe D. can rebuild this team ‘on-the-fly’ without having to fall too far down the NBA food chain. Rip Hamilton, and Rodney Stuckey, would probably be all that is left of the winning nucleus, so the task will be great! Damn!  Change can be a b*tch!!  But…..Thanks…. Pistons for all those great seasons!

THE LIONS:

Gawd! Many of us are HOPING, PRAYING, making incantations, that this new regime gets it right …..THIS TIME!  The reorganization from the disaster this franchise became is going to be monumental. The only logical thinking anyone could have is …..they can ONLY get better? I mean, can they really be any worse after an NFL record, OH (as in ouch! — DAMN!!) and 16 season. New head coach Jim Schwartz  has his coaching staff in place, and now? The team is banking its renaissance on the arm of young University of Georgia quarterback, Matt Stafford, much to the displeasure of MANY of Lions’ faithful. He was the first pick of the NFL Draft held on April 25th. It became pretty clear well before the draft,  that this was where the team was headed, despite SO MANY other dire needs on defense, and for that wretched offensive line. I know many others are scratching their heads over the other 1st round picks. Tight end Brandon Pettigrew, and defensive secondary player Louis Delmas. Hunh? what about the awful linebacking corps? What about a defensive end who can actually RUSH the quarterback…….and GET to him?? But, the coaches and management spent a great deal of time evaluating talent, and obviously feel the guys they picked will help turn this organization around. 

 The team has even changed the Lions’ logo from this: , to this:

  All as part of sweeping moves to try and change a LOSER’S culture. I like the concept. They HAD to do SOMETHING!!?  If somewhere, down the line, this management DOES indeed turn it around and into an elite franchise? We will all reflect back on this time and place and be pleased that they FINALLY GOT IT RIGHT!  All we can do is hope, and allow  T-I-M-E to do its thing!  LIONS?? you ARE on the clock!!

THE TIGERS: 

The ‘O9 version of this team is supposed to be defensively BETTER than the ‘food-strainer’ infield they rolled out there in ‘O8.  Adam Everett   is the new everyday shortstop.  He has a vacuum for a glove, but ….he can’t hit a LICK!!  But, he really doesn’t have to? This team will HIT, HIT and HIT some more after that. A reborn Brandon Inge  goes back to third base where he feels more …..umm-m-m …comfortable? needed? appreciated? I guess all of the above apply. But, Inge swears the move helps him MENTALLY and physically be a better guy with the lumber ( batting…for those not familar with sports slang lingo). It appears, so far, dude is right!! He’s hitting the daylights out of the ball. he’s altered his stance at the plate, and is just RIPPIN’ !!  The new catcher, Gerald Laird, is an improvment for a faded-defensively, Ivan ‘Pudge’ Rodriguez. And? HE’S hitting better than expected. Okay, those are the main POSITIVES. The NEGATIVES? What the “EFF” is up with ace righthander Justin Verlander?  He looks good, then he don’t, looks okay, then he looks awful. Young man? We NEED you to correct whatEVER the problem is. The Tiges are getting nice pitching from newly acquired righthander Edwin Jackson, and we’re seeing.. the ’surprise-from-’O8′,  pitcher Armando Galarraga, show that his success was not a fluke. Now, they gotta find out if righthander Jeremy Bonderman can regain ANY form of previous years after arm surgery. So far? That’s an INCOMPLETE. I know many Tigers fans hope the team can duplicate the successes of young pitching that came about in ‘O6. Hopes are being put on the young arms and raw talent of their last two top draft picks, righthand pitchers, Rick Porcello- ‘O7, and Ryan Perry- ‘O8. Both made the team, and have shown promise (WE HAVE OUR fingers, eyes, toes, MIND– ALL CROSSED). Brings us to the bullpen. Skipper Jim Leyland made the enigmatic reliever, Fernando Rodney the CLOSER!??  A LOT of us about lost our minds when THAT announcement was made, but, so far?

It HASN’T blown up in Leyland’s face  …..yet!  Perry, who throws HARD, is likely being groomed for the closer’s role. It (the closers role) seems HIS to take if he can show he’s ready for the big leagues. We know it aint gunna be off-season acquisition, righthander Brandon Lyon.  Dude can’t pitch!! There! I said it (and to THINK…the crowd CHEERED when G.M. Dave Dombrowski made the announcement in January at Tigerfest!! ( whew-w-w-w-www!!) This guy has been TERRIBLE, at BEST!  Right now? I bet most Tigers fans would NOW prefer Kimba the White Lion.   He probably SHOULDN’T buy a home here. 

Conclusion? I’m afraid this team will be around the .500 mark much of the season, which means they’ll be really good at times, but other times??, they’ll really, REALLY BLOW, and frustrate the SH*T out of us. The pitching just has too many question marks. And this feeling from me comes despite the AL Central not really being all that strong. But? hopefully it will all come together, and they SURPRISE us with a better record and be in contention to the end!!!??

MAYORAL RACE:                           

The thing is….I really don’t DISLIKE either Mr. Cockrel, nor Mr. Bing. But, this aint about LIKE. It’s about who is the best guy to get this city’s messes (The horrible school public school system, suffering economy, COBO, crime, political foolishness, et cetera) fixed? Each have their ardent supporters. Each have adamant detractors.  Thats’ just politics. To be honest? I think the BIGGEST obstacle they face will be ??? VOTER APATHY! The May election is to chose the candidate to finish the remainder of the former mayor’s term (here-to-fore only referred to as .. the ‘Young-Foolish-mayor’). That’s about SEVEN months, before we gotta do it again! Three trips to the polls in LESS than a year?? Damn you ‘Young-Foolish-mayor’, this is ALL YOUR fault! 

Don’t expect ME to tell you who I’m voting for, mainly because I just don’t know. All I DO know is that WE HAVE TO GET THIS ONE RIGHT, NOW? and in NOVEMBER!! 

 See what I’m sayin’?

I hope you paid close attention to the debates, hope you, essentially, are DOING, or have DONE your homework, because we NEED a TRUE LEADER through just about the toughest times that I can recall in 52 years on earth! Vote, but do it like you NEVER HAVE done it before! We GOTTA get this right people!!

CITY COUNCIL:

The general ‘FEEL’ that I get from people is that this current Detroit City Council is a JOKE!  So let me be the one to tell you. There are roughly 184 potential candidates just ‘Jones-in’ << (anxious, ready, willing) to take their place. Yep, ONE-HUNDRED-Eighty Four !! Think we can get at LEAST two? three? four? good people out of that group? I’m just askin’.

THE BIG THREE:

              

Why does it just FEEL like the carcasses are just laid out there to be picked clean?

 

It’s no secret that the survival of GM, FORD and CHRYSLER means so MUCH to this city and region. SO, the hope is that EVERYONE involved in this are making their best effort to get this worked out. It’s as much about CHANGE for everyone, and, as I said in the Pistons’ item above?  “Change can be a b*tch!!  C’mon people (Automakers, unions, politicians) You’re determining what is LITERALLY going to happen with peoples’ LIVES here!  Don’t f**k it up anymore than it already IS!

Okay, so what is going through my mind in ‘My’ month!? nearly midway through  (MARCH)  (yeah, it’s MY month. I was born on the 1st day of it, so it’s MINE!!  I mean…it’s mine??    

DETROIT CITY GOVERNMENT SHENANIGANS:

(ESPECIALLY the City Council) 
     

 OH MY DAMN!!  This most recent episode is about as EMBARRASSING as it can get!!  Arguably, one of the city’s largest annual moneymakers, the North American International Auto Show -NAIAS, is this close ( holding thumb and index finger about a millimeter apart) to saying SO LONG to dilapidated, raggety,  and outdated, teeny-tiny Cobo Center, because they have had enough. And? what does our elected city government do?  They ‘posture’ for ALL THE AUTHORITY!!  A plan, signed-off by interim mayor Kenneth Cockrel, after years of negotiating with regional leaders, and state lawmakers, is stopped in its well-worn tracks by our City Council!!  Why? Because the ‘ring-leader’, the Council President (Lord, help us!) says she isn’t going to give UP that much AUTHORITY to a regional board!  Then? we have, what HAS to be one of the most PITIFUL displays of city government on the face of this earth take place on the same day the mayor promised to veto the council’s ASS-JACK move. Council members breaking into a spiritual song in protest of the decision, all while PERPETUATING the tired mantra  ‘Us’ (city), versus, ‘them’ (suburbs). This is something that one would expect to be played out in elementary school, at best!!   The only way I can aptly describe our beleaguered city lawmakers is…. WHAT A BUNCH OF   —-         TOOLS!!!

The proposed expansion (as I mentioned in my previous blog) would add just over 165,000 square feet of space into Cobo. And, THAT space addition still is DWARFED by other, more modernized facilities around the country, but it would be enough to keep an annual show that brings in at least $500 million in much-needed money into the city. And, at a relative modest cost of $288 million. But? what does the council do? they vote it down!!

Cobo is older than our President of the United States (He’s 47). It is falling apart, because they city cannot afford to routinely maintain it, let alone, add-on, or MODERNIZE it! And what do these crackpots do?  They vote the expansion down!!  “Everybody SING!!  ….”Onward —yada-yadah-h-h-hhhhh” OH-MY-LORD! ( Mocking council members… )  “ L. Brooks Patterson called us monkeys!”   Hunh!!?? Now I honestly don’t always agree with, or even like some of the things the Oakland County Executive says and does either, but I’m (as a part of the ‘hated’ media) STILL TRYING to FIND that quote from him.  Council feels they aren’t getting fair value for Cobo?? The city operates the joint at an annual loss, the facility is in such DISREPAIR, that the worth of it is NEGATIVE $284 MILLION!!  The deal calls for the city to get $20 million to release its clutches.  Their ‘concerns’ make it makes it APPEAR as if the lawmakers…..want…MORE….um-mmmmm!!??  Err-r-rrrr? 

(ahem!*)    M-O-N-E-Y??         “Everybody SING!!  ….”Onward —yada-yadah-h-h-hhhhh”  People!!??  A fork lift fell through the ‘EFFING’ FLOOR last year!!  Just this past weekend (MARCH 6th through 8th) during the Autorama Hot Rod-Custom Car Show, RAIN from the LEAKING ROOF fell onto many of the cars on display!!!  And this wasn’t just dripping water. This was water, mixed with toxic, rotted-roof material, dripping down onto these people’s cars who spent in upwards of 50 G’s to customize!!  That stuff can REALLY mess up a costly-custom paint job.  And what does the Council President say in response?  “Oh they didn’t get wet, they were covered with tarp!”.  WHAT!??   WAIT A MOMENT!!  Didn’t I see on a newscast, an owner DRYING OFF his vehicle??….PISSED-off to the highest level of PISTIVITY!?? (late comedian Robin Harris reference)   Oh! …no Ms. Thang, the EVIL MEDIA just made that up!!  My bad!!

                                   

The NAIAS says you got until 2010 to get this sh*t  fixed at the C-O-B-O, or??  It’s C-YA!! Not tryin’ to BE YAH!! And? as I have said in the previous blog, and now, THIS ONE?  I wouldn’t blame ’em one bit!  And what do the lawmakers tell all those PISSED-OFF hotel owners (casinos, Book-Cadillac, Doubletree Fort Shelby, et, al) who would be counting on revenue from the show, and or SHOWS and conventions that would be lost because you can’t get anybody to book anything worthwhile into our city ‘treasure’?  Who DO we blame for having such TOOLS make decisions for us!?  We have to BLAME OURSELVES. We voted ‘em in! You know it’s the truth!!   If the Automakers and dealers take the NAIAS and leave? PLEASE TAKE THIS REALLY BAD ‘REALITY SHOW’ with you??  Or? ….perhaps we can JUST NOT RE-ELECT THEM!   I …(as a native Detroiter, and current resident) am JUST SICK and TIRED of being the butt of the country’s jokes, mostly because of a talented, yet, foolish, 30-something (former) mayor, and now a totally dysfunctional panel of city lawmakers, led by another 30-something, with ‘issues’ !   Now, some might ask. Who am I to be making such statements?  Me?  I’m just ‘average’ citizen, with a voice. But, I’m MORE of a concerned city resident, who REALLY does love my city, and I cringe everytime this stuff gets splattered all over the country.   “Everybody SING!!  ….”Onward —yada-yadah-h-h-hhhhh” 

WHAT’S REALLY HURTING IVERSON??      

We ALL are happy the Pistons have been playing better ball lately (more on THAT after I get to my point). But, a LOT of us also are wondering if future Hall-of-Fame guard Allen Iverson’s back isn’t the ONLY thing that needs to ….um-m-m-mm ..HEAL?  I LOVE A-I’s game. I think the young man has MAJOR-MAD Hoop game, as well as HEART!  Hell! One HAS to… at his size, amongst all those TALL TRESS!!   Iverson is ‘listed’ at SIX FEET tall. Unh HUNH!  yeah! right!  Point is, I’m not blaming Iverson one bit for the way the team>> hit a black-ice patch, skidded, rolled over many times (eight game losing streak), and was about to burst into flames, before he hurt his back in a game, and hasn’t played since.  Just by co-inky dink, former starter, Rip Hamilton, was inserted back into the lineup, and our guys….how you say? started whuppin’ that ASS again!   But, just as I know these guys’ heights are FUDGED?  I also know their EGOS are about the size of Jupiter!   A-I has been saying all the right things from the sidelines, since the resurgence, so, HOPEFULLY we’ll see it LITERALLY play out on the hardwood when he’s (clearing throat) HEALTHY enough to play!  I HOPE you do Iverson. If you come in with that second unit and start taking apart some of these teams? And,  if the first unit can keep up the great play? The Pistons could make some noise in the East.  Now, I’m NOT saying they’ll go all the way to the Conference or NBA finals, but they could conceivably go deep enough in the playoffs to make the execs’ sphincters at the alphabet network (ABC), tighten up (like Archie Bell & the Drells)  if they (the networks)  HAVE to show the Pistons!   Of course, we’ll all be loving that here in the “D”

SMOOTH JAZZ RETRO FEEL:

I am REALLY liking the way many of our contemporary Jazz artists are reaching back to re-do tracks from the past, mostly from the 70’s.  Yes, I have not made it a secret that I favor music from that era. It contains, ARGUABLY, some of the BEST music, whatever genre, that has ever been made. I particulary like the face that artists such as Boney James — “Stop, Look, Listen”  and Richard Elliot, have reached back for music from one of the more UNDERRATED groups of that era, the STYLISTICS!!

  I LOVE Richard Elliot’s version of “People Make the World Go Round” ( he even put in the wind-chimes at the beginning, and end of his version). I also LOVE our own Alexander Zonjic’s version of that same track.   I mean, if you were a young, virile male teen, growing up in the 70’s?  You HAD to try and sing falsetto like Stylistics’ lead singer, Russell Thompkins Jr., that is if you wanted to impress the girlies.  And we ALL tried to!!  The Stylistics came out of Philly, first forming in 1968. THOM BELL produced much of their material, and it was OH-SO-SWEET!!  My favorite Stylistics cut is ….. “Break Up, To Make Up“   Ss-s-ssssss-AH!  love that track!     Richard Elliot also has brilliantly re-done Curtis Mayfield’s “Move On Up“, which will be on his new CD, “Rock Steady”, set to drop in May!  Of course, there have been other contemporary jazz artists who have done  GREAT jobs with their interpretations of popular 70’s R&B hits, like Wayman Tisdale, “Can’t Hide Love“- Earth, Wind, & Fire, I REALLY like trumpeter Rick Braun’s version of “Shinin’ Star” -by EWF.   Guitarist, Peter White does an excellent job on all his Motown covered songs….  “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love”, and others.  There are other artists, but those touch me the most.  And arguably, I would imagine it’s easier to re-do a cut via instrumental, than it is by vocal. That way, you don’t run the risk of pissing off the people who really LOVED the original. Hmm–mmmmm, when was the last time THAT happened???  (whisper: Poetry Man)   Okay! okay!  I’m sorry my people, but as the sub-title of this blog says, ‘what I don’t say on the air, I’ll say here’ ?  I DID NOT CARE FOR the remake of that song….AT ALL!! 

Keep the Retro coming Smooth Jazz artists. This should be a great summer on the concert circuit………I HOPE!?

WRITTEN WEATHER FORECASTS:

 I know this is really NIT-PICKY. This is directed to those at NOAA  ( National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration)    Why is it necessary to write any weather forecast (which MANY News anchors, weather reporters, etc., use) in which RAIN, or ANY precipitation is predicted, and include: CLOUDY!!?  Is there some OTHER way that we can get RAIN, or SNOW,  WITHOUT CLOUDS?  I’m just askin’

OCTO MOM:

Is anyone ELSE as ‘EFFING’ TIRED OF SEEING and HEARING about this Angelina Jolie wannabe as I am?  I HAVE to put a lot of this overkill, and RIGHTFULLY so, on the MEDIA!   LEAVE THAT GIRL ALONE!!!  PLEASE!!  You know? This is the woman, JOBLESS,  MAYBE soon-to-be HOMELESS, if her parents lose their home >>>>>> HER!      >>    She’s the California woman who had, like SIX kids already, living with her parents? Then took MORE fertility drugs, and HAD EIGHT MORE!!  Her publicist just recently quit, calling her, quote; “NUTS”. Turns out, the child was with his nanny, I believe.  And, it’s my understanding that she apparently is a frequent-enough caller to 911 for other ‘issues’.    I, for one, am just tired of hearing about HER.  Tired of seeing her grotesque-shaped stomach when she was carrying the eight babies!  Tired! Tired! Tired of it ENOUGH!!   Auuuuugggghhhhh! I’m losing

my mii-i-i-iiiiiiiiii-i-i-nnnnnd!!  

 It’s ‘Colly-Forn-yah’s (as governor Ah’Nold says)  problem !!   I REALLY fear for those children’s safety and well-being. Not that she’s a bad mom or anything, but…. if she FREAKED out when ONE was out-of-her-sight? What happens when the other EIGHT come home, and perhaps, she loses sight of one of them?   I’m just askin’ 

 Besides, we,  here in the “D”,  have our own Octo-mom, SORTA.  But, at LEAST SHE has a TV weather forecaster’s gig, and she’s having them …ONE AT A TIME!!! Wink!

Well, it’s March, and I’m inspired to write about some things that have transpired since last we got together.

Detroit Mayoral Race:

        vs    

Dave Bing versus (incumbent)Ken Cockrell. This should be an ‘interesting’ race to see who will serve out the remainder of our former ‘young’ mayor’s term. Right now, it appears Detroiters believe a little more in what Mr. Bing is saying, but of course that could swing the other way, between now and May, when the election is held. Gosh! there is just SO much that needs the attention of ANYONE who can get it done! For my feelings?  I’ll be hoping for both candidates to focus on where they can take this city, as much as where THEY have been and what they HAVE DONE!  The city’s deep, DEEP in debt, crime is still a major issue, and the city government is still a categorical MESS! The schools system is a laughing stock, nationwide, and is steadily LOSING students…perhaps to be taken over (again!) by the state.  Both guys are: likeable, apparently qualified, and appear to really care about the city. I, personally, just hope that the campaign doesn’t resort to the mud-slinging, and negativity that hampers so MANY political campaigns and winds up leaving MANY just turned-OFF to how politics are, and can be.  Run good, and (as CLEAN as you are ABLE to) campaigns gentlemen!! We REALLY GOT TO GET THIS ONE RIGHT!

PISTONS:                

Oh-my-DAY-YAM!!  This team has completely IMPLODED!!   So much for …’the trade’ working out!!  Great Googa MOOGA!   This squad is totally ‘effed UP’ …to damn near LION-nesque proportions (and THAT’S pretty bad). Whenever ANY real (or novice) sports fan hears the term..’team chemistry’, you can rest assured that it DOES mean something. Chauncey Billups was obviously the ‘GLUE’ that kept this team together…in the LOCKER ROOM, AND on the COURT. But? Chauncey gone! buh-bye! Joe D. made this move as much for what the team is GOING to do (in the near FUTURE) more so than what it MIGHT do in the immediate future. What am I saying?  It was about the $$$. We got Iverson’s huge contract (in its last year), in exchange for Denver getting Chauncey’s HUGE long-term deal.  C- Bill’s contract is off Mr. D’s (owner, Bill Davidson) books. Iverson’s  $$$   is COMING off (at the end) of this season. “Mr. Meltdown”, Rasheed Wallace’s $12-13 million a year deal also goes bye-bye after this season as well. And? Like I said in prior blogs?  BOTH A.I. and ‘Sheed will be gone right after the final buzzer in the final game! Those moves will clear SALARY CAP space, which was killin’ the ‘Stones, and …hopefully.. allow the team to make some key free agent moves in the off-season. Joe D. was hoping, (against hope), that he could ‘buy-some-time’ with this current team configuration, win some games, still be good enough to contend. But?  IT AINT HAPPENING!!  My people?? better get ready for a STARK reality. This team is NOT going to make postseason!! And? if by some miracle they DO?  It will be a swift EXIT!   Who to BLAME? Take your pick. Me personally? I blame the entire team for seemingly GIVING UP on this experiment. Coach M.C. (Michael Curry) is trying, but he was dealt a BAD HAND when that trade went down. But, it’s mostly from his inexperience as an NBA head coach!  All the king’s horses and ALL the king’s MEN cannot put THIS HUMPTY-DUMPTY back together again.

‘Sheed’  >>>>       should ACTUALLY GO RIGHT the ‘EFF’ NOW!!   Especially after his latest meltdown in the final seconds of a game (towel throwing, double techs, cursing…typical ‘Sheed’ behavior). His welcome has been WORN to the bare threads, just as it was before he was …er-r-rrr.. ‘run’ out of Portland.  This team is regularly gettin’ its collective ASS whupped at home (something almost UNHEARD of since the beginning of this decade), and they are no longer even in the top FIVE in the Eastern Conference!!  Pistons fans? Better recognize, and then, hope what lies ahead will work, because THIS season is….how you say? done!

Well, friends, I recently auditioned through the talent agency I’m signed with (TALENT SHOP) for a role in a photo shoot / Television commercial for
Henry Ford Hospital’s  (NEW) West Bloomfield location.  Yeah, I GOT the part!  I wind-up playing a granddad  (yeah, ME!!), taking his grandson out on a lake to fish for the first time. The ‘theme’ for the ad campaign ‘appears’ to be, getting out-being active, relaxing, being as STRESS FREE as possible. Fishing in a quiet, serene setting with your grand kids, or taking a nice brisk hike! With my activity, you’ll see me wearing a blue wristband that will say “stroke prevented”. 

 

 The spot has had a good run, and I am so thankful to have been involved. I understand the new facility is absolutely GORGEOUS!! Congratulations to the HF Health System !!

The COBO Center mess:     

You have GOT to be kidding!!  City Council votes down the planned expansion package??  What is it going to take??  LOSING probably one of THEE largest moneymakers this city knows?? ( the North American International Auto Show), because we just HAVE to have ALL and total CONTROL over this decrepit, damn near derelict facilty??  Gawd!!  just STOP with this madness!! Just STOP!!  I’ve covered this in several blogs, but I hadn’t mentioned it lately, because I simply wanted to see just how our elected (insert appropriate EXPLETIVE here)  council could muck it up! And? it appears that’s what they are doing once again!!  The planned and agreed upon deal worked out by mayor Cockrel would have helped keep the NAIAS here for the foreseeable future, despite the actual expansion still being WOEFULLY short in cubic-foot space compared to other venues around the country.  I blogged about this MONTHS ago, that these people won’t be satifisfied until the moving vans are headed out of town with the NAIAS (likely to Chicago’s CAVERNOUS McCormick Place). I dunno. Maybe that’s what council wants!!??  Cobo is literally FALLING apart. The facade of the arena is shabby, there is LITERALLY rebar showing in the pavement around the facility, and, as it IS NOW? the auto exhibitors have to CRAM their product into the joint!! In Chicago? show attendees can actually drive all-terrain vehicles up man-made hills, and comfortably go from exhibit to exhibit without feeling like cattle being herded. Here?…well …WE can actually SIT in a vehicle, and maybe have a little elbow room going from exhibit to exhibit.   The place (COBO) is almost 50 years old, and way-y-y-y-y-y-yyyyyyy  outdated. But? — (mocking council’s response on the recent vote) …”We MUST keep control of the facility”  So, lemme get this right. You want to RISK losing a huge international, money-making event over a POWER TRIP!?  Amazing! just amazing! I wouldn’t blame the Auto Dealer’s Association one bit if they decided to leave tomorrow!

PLEASE FIX THE M-39-SOUTHFIELD FREEWAY!!

 

MDOT just released a list of construction projects slated for this Summer. The

 (M-39) Southfield Freeway wasn’t on it (unless I missed it?). The stretch (North and South) between the M-10 Lodge, out to the I-96-Jeffries? is in DEPLORABLE condition!!  The pavement is crumbling, the retainer walls look like a jigsaw puzzle, and appear as if will fall as soon as (any PORTION of it)  gets a good HIT from an accident!    I’m sure the fine folks at MDOT will say they KNOW the Southfield Freeway is a mess, but there ….”isn’t any money in the state budget…THIS year”  I already KNOW that’s what their answer will be. Guess we will have to endure the frequent patch-jobs and road spacklings until they can get to it. Sucks though, doesn’t it?

Brothers!!?? We’re being OBAMA-IZED!!
On a serious note. Now that the swearing-in, and inauguration of the 44th POTUS ( President Of The United States ) is done, the new administration will hopefully get down and try to stem this MESS the country is in. It appears that’s what the president and his appointees are doing.

On a NOT-So-SERIOUS Note. It’s STARTING Bros’ I think SOME of you already KNOW where I’m going with this. Let me set the table ……..

Most of you know that I’m a SINGLE (unattached) Black man, which means I occasionally (clearing throat)…DATE? So, I, naturally check out the PERSONALS sites, and the like ! Just recently, I had my FIRST “sighting” of something that I KNEW would eventually come up. Brothers? IT’S OFFICAL. We are NOW being measured UP AGAINST President Barack Obama in the DATING world, and I’m certain it won’t be too long before the MARRIED brothas start feelin’ THAT heat! My Brothers? I guaran-EFFING-TEE that you will SEE a written phrase in a sister’s Personal’s PROFILE such as this … ” I’m looking for my Barack Obama“, or… “The man I’m looking for will have similar qualities of Barack Obama!”
Or, some sisters will word it like the one I JUST saw……(paraphrasing) “I am looking for the SAME kind of relationship that Barack and Michelle Obama have..if you do not feel the SAME? You’re NOT the one for me“. A lady in Texas, I believe, wrote that.

Aww–w-wwww DAMN! I KNEW it! …yeah! I knew it! It’s going to get WORSE fellas! Now, mind you, I too am emotionally attached to this phenomenal story and its historical impact, but I just wish SOME (eligible) women (the sisters) would just concentrate on working at the ‘mechanics’ of making a (realistic) relationship work, instead of putting THAT added burden on the brothers of having to.. ‘Be like Barack‘!

I mean, the fact that we have an African American couple and their ADORABLE daughters in the White House is going to be interesting enough to watch. It would be under any circumstances, but this is unique, because….well…IT’S NEVER-EVER HAPPENED before.

I’ll tell you WHY! According to the NOAA National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office, the Winter of 2002-03 was the COLDEST over this region since the Winter of 1993-94. Man! it was good that I was in ‘Cahlii-fornya’ then [as Ahnold, de govehn-ur say]

That was according to William R. Deedler, Weather Historian, who wrote that story in May, 2003. But, I’m thinkin’ ( and when I DO think? the world slows down a bit). I recall the Winter of 2003-04 was pretty damn cold too, especially that JANUARY!!

But, according to Randall J. Schaetzl , Michigan State University

Winter of 1903-4
This winter ranks as the coldest of all time across much of lower Michigan. In Detroit, the average temperature from December through February was 18.7 degrees. Both Saginaw and Flint also saw the coldest winters on record.

Wait! there’s more

The winter of 1976-77 ranks as one of the coldest ever across lower Michigan. In fact, January 1977 ( I had JUST moved out of state to Texas!! PHEW!!) ranks as the coldest month ever in Detroit, with an average temperature of 12.8 degrees, while the normal January temperature is 24.6 degrees. Remarkably, Detroit failed to reach 32 degrees for 45 consecutive days, from December 26 to February 8.

I don’t know what else to tell you, other than make sure you have at least TWO good-clean, comfortable pairs of LONG DRAWS!!

TIGERFEST ‘O9 : George & Tigers’ GM Dave Dombrowski at LAST YEAR’S TIGERFEST ‘O8

We, again visited Comerica Park this past weekend ( January 24) for TIGERFEST ‘O9. I was told that at LEAST 8, to 9,000 Tigers’ faithful braved the deep freeze here in ‘Refrigeration Valley’ to get a look at our guys, and take part in the annual festivities.

We also video’d a “Doin the “D” episode,

just as we did last year. I had a chance to speak (ONE-on-ONE) with Tigers’ skipper, Jim Leyland, and spoke (ONE-on-ONE) with young STAR centerfielder, Curtis Granderson. With Black History Month coming up at the beginning of next month, I wanted to find out from Granderson what HIS thoughts are on why there are now so FEW young African American boys who are even INTERESTED in baseball, let alone play it. As a child, I can remember playing baseball all the ding-donged DAY during summer break, from morning, till it was dark. Just don’t SEE that anymore. Curtis, one of the prominent African American players on the club (a multi-sport star in high school and college) gave me his thoughts.

SPEAKING OF PLAYING BALL DURING MY YOUTHFUL YEARS:2009….is a VERY, VERY special year for me. Why? It is the 40th anniversary of the 1969 Championship season of the COBRAS of the Southwest Detroit Little League at Kemeny Rec Center on Fort Street and Schaefer. I was a part of that amazing team. We lost our 1st game of the season. We actually lost two of our first three ( I could be wrong). But we went UNDEFEATED for the rest of the season, finishing 13 & 2 !! The Cobras were coached by a big, gentle, cigar-smoking man named Robert Gamble Sr., who was a Ford Motor Company factory worker, and loved working with kids and allowing them to have fun, playing the game, and learning the game. Coach Gamble had three kids of his own, Robert Jr., Rory, and Eleanor. The Cobras were usually the doormat of the league for years, and I recall. NO ONE…my friends, the other players in the league, no one in the surrounding neighborhoods..thought we were going to be anything that season either. I thought it would be so cool if I could get in contact with as many of my teammates that i could locate these 40 years later so that we could share those memories together. So, in no particular order, I am looking for: David ‘Moon’ White, Richard Hill, Lysander ‘Sandy’ Lee, Brian Lee, Terry ‘Bo’ Thomas, Clarence Tabb, Mark Means, Lewaylen Parker, Anthony Parker, Jed Roberson ….. I KNOW I’m leaving some guys out, but they were the nucleus. I played mostly 3rd base, but in Little League, you play usually as many positions as the coach thinks you can play. If anybody reading this blog, or who HEARS about it knows where ANY of these guys are? Well, I know THIS….I aint gunna be there, because I ( CANNOT POSSIBLY) pay the exhorbitant prices that many of our entertainment heroes are paying. Geez! I heard some are paying in upwards of $50,000 a night for a prime hotel stay in D.C.?? Are you kidding?? The nation’s capital is expecting an overflow crowd of out-of-towners reaching in upwards of FOUR MILLION !! Great Googa-MOOGA!! Mind you, anyone going to the festivities from THIS point on should KNOW someone who lives in the area, because there aint a hotel space to be found! Here’s a [ partial ] celeb list of those who will be in D.C. for the big bash: The ones in BOLD are the ones I know, and that I know YOU know

But I wouldn’t want to go for the star-gazing..(anybody who knows ME, knows that kind of stuff is just SO-O-O-OOOO…NOT…ME! ). Remember in that fine movie “Glory“, when Denzel Washington’s character was asked what HE () was doing before he decided to join the Civil War’s only ‘colored’ regiment? Denzel’s character ( a runaway slave) said….. ” I run for president…..I didn’t win though!”

Yeah! I didn’t win any tickets, from congressman Conyers, but at least I can say I tried? Some LISTENER would have been pretty happy after I gave them away!! Wink!

You guys, I’m sure, have seen that long-running television commercial for a product called Mucinex right? It’s a pharmeceutical product that works on clearing the gunk out of your chest cavity?

Well, the company uses a cartoon (computer-generated) character called ……..“Mr. Mucus” >>>> ugh! —– >>>>HIM! —->> .

I have to confess, when I first saw the spot run, I felt it was a very creative idea. Kudos to the ad agency geniuses who thought it up. That was at least two years ago. Now?? I can’t take it anymore! stop! Stop…..STOP! auuuuggggghhh!! enough already!! Now, this little green-slimy SUCKA has a FAMILY!!? and they’re taking up residence inside my chest!?? Oh NO, I don’t think so!! Mind you, this isn’t a complaint, as much as it’s a plea to create another type of ad campaign. Just the thought of that ‘mutant thing’ inside me ……gives me the CREEPS! eyeww-w-wwwwwww!! ( I REALLY got the idea to blog about this while watching the most recent commercial, and, by co-inky dink, hocking-UP a major-league size LOOGIE….I know, I know…T-M-I ) But, wanna hear something from the “IRONY” category? That product is now the best-selling of its type on the market.

THE LIONS: O - 16 2008 regular season FARCE.

NFL history is made

Aww-ww mann-n-nnnn! I REALLY don’t wanna spend too much time on this. I think I did say early on, that this crew would take the gas-pipe, and make history by NOT WINNING A SINGLE ‘EFFING’ GAME!!! And? they DIDN’T Now, understand this….I aint happy about it, just as MANY Lions’ sufferers. But I DO know that many wanted them to go winless. It’s mainly because we felt that maybe the team’s HORRIBLY-INEPT management and ownership would finally… ’see the light’ and make some sweeping moves, starting upstairs. They did…..sort of. They wind-up KEEPING the same people who were under that jackass Millen!! Including, (SO FAR) all those SCOUTS who can’t find any decent, NFL-caliber players like the REST of the league manages to do. They DID launch the NFL’s ALL-TIME, Single-season WORSE head coach, Rod Marinelli (what else could they do…?? or run the real RISK of losing what’s left of a shrinking fanbase). Now? Marinelli gets a gig quicker than one can say…”The LIONS STINK” (more on that coming up). Then? Millen finally shows up on national TV after spending WEEKS AND WEEKS hiding out ( behind his wife’s skirt ) when the old man ‘reluctantly showed him the door, ( about SIX YEARS later than he SHOULD have). Millen stoically gave MANY lame-assed replies to the MANY ‘softball‘ questions tossed at him by his peacock-network, NFL-pregame panel on why he SUCKED so much as an NFL exec. And WE, here in Detroit, had to sit and WATCH that FARCE!!! Rightfully so, MANY in my circle, and others, were just totally REPULSED to see this take place. It was one thing just to see his jughead sitting there after he literally DESTROYS this franchise. But, we also had to sit and listen to those sorry responses and look at his ‘smugness‘, knowing that he not only ROBBED money from ownership, but robbed a city of a legitimate pro sports franchise??? I wanted to VOMIT!! It (my disgust and nausea) was shared by MANY in this city.

MORE LIONS:

You GOT to be kidding!! Rod (O & 16) Marinelli gets a new gig…… quickly after guiding the LIONS into the ABYSS! He is now the Defensive Line coach, and ASSISTANT HEAD COACH of the Chicago Bears!! Here’s a guy that for MOST of his sorry time here as a head coach, acted like a horses ass to the press. But only because a local sports reporter asked an ILL-TIMED post game question following another LIONS stink-bomb performance about Marinelli’s totally clueless son-in-law DEFENSIVE coordinator, that Marinelli leaves town as some sort of GREAT GUY martyr !!?? He walks right into ANOTHER plum gig in the NFL!!! Those who know, are not surprised at this turn of events. Marinelli and Bears head coach, Lovie Smith, are old buddies from their days in Tampa. But for me?? it just puts an IRON -CLAD stamp on the notion that the NFL is just as much the ‘good ‘Ol Boy’ network as ANYTHING was and ever could be. On the same day Marinelli gets gigged-up, his son-in-law gets a gig coaching with the Seattle Seahawks!! Yep! Joe Barry is the new linebackers coach for the Sea Hags. The same Joe Barry who coached one of the WORST defenses in NFL history during this recently-finished regular season. I swear, I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again. This Western culture and society we live in today has gotten into a HUGELY BAD habit of REWARDING ineptitude and mediocrity (see : American Idol, the entire network television Primetime lineup, put in just about ANYTHING that used to require excellence).

I’m through, I can’t take anymore of this, or I WILL puke!

He LOST to that HUGE Russian dude >> <<< oops! wrong picture…heh! heh!

>> HIM >> in a ‘close’ 12 round decision recently. Turns out ‘Vander really was not in any danger of getting seriously hurt, because dude’s (Valuev) punches couldn’t break an egg! We always seem to think that just because somebody is a huge person…. they are powerful. That’s not always the case. It’s my understanding that this guy won’t fight ANYBODY who can hit….(Holyfield is not, and NEVER was a BIG PUNCH, knockout fighter). And I have the answer as to why Evander is even still fighting at age 46, and after making well over $100 million in ring earnings for his career. It’s TWO WORDS … CHILD SUPPORT. Holyfield has about NINE children from at least that many different women. It’s admirable that you take care of that resposibility ‘Vander, but damn mann-n-nnnnnn ….what ‘choo know about…..contreceptives?? I KNOW they got ‘em in the ATL!! Don’t they?

Stand Up and be Proud:

This is a brilliant and very much NEEDED campaign of postiveness, and inspiration for all who live and work in this region. It was conceived by those in our local corporate office as a response to the unfair ‘beating’ we’ve been taking from everything and virtually EVERYBODY during some of the most difficult financial times ever. The campaign has been underway since shortly before Christmas, and has featured local sports heroes, business, and other ‘key’ local people, as well as the everyday regular Joes, who believe we aint dead here in the region, so STOP trying to bury us!!

Anybody who has read this blog KNOWS that I have been standing UP, being PROUD for my city (Detroit) as much as I can since I started to blog. Nothing new for me, but I would encourage ALL who call this region HOME, to start, or CONTINUE to do the same! We all need to show strength by sticking together and withstanding the onslaught, battling for our right to be here, and to be able to prosper once again!

Okay, it didn’t happen……BUT, I am glad to announce that we have just finished shooting the video, and it’s now in post-edit production, HOPEFULLY to be on this website ……soon! We had some logistical issues to work through, and now they have been cleared. I think you will REALLY enjoy watching the clips and the in-between-the-video segments that we produced. I don’t know how you guys feel until you ACTUALLY WRITE us, but it is my hope that you’ve ENJOYED the segments since we began to feature them back in the fall of 2007 !! Sandy’s recent blog had a nice feature on banned words for ‘O9. I agreed with nearly all of them ( BAILOUT, I’m afraid, will resonate throughout the entire year). I know of TWO words that I HOPE are banned in 2009, and in the years to come:

ONE MOORE THING:

You guys know by now that I occasionally ‘luck-up’ and get extra work as a video actor, print model -(yeah! when they need a middle-age Black man?? I’m soo-o-oooo there!).

Since the last blog, I did a photo-shoot (shortly before Christmas) that will be somewhere on the Triple A (AAA) website, or in their brochure(s). I apologize for being so vague, but it’s how they (the clients) usually answer us when we ask … ” um-m-mm..where is this going to be seen?”

The shoot was about “Distracted Drivers“, so if you see something with that title in ANY Triple A material? You’ll see me.

I am also currently doing a 3-part shoot for Trinity Health (St. Joseph’s Hospitals). They ARE one of our radio stations’ clients, but I got this through my agency –Talent Shop. It’s a photo/video shoot on Hip, Knee replacement therapy. I play the role of the ‘doting’ husband, who’s wife has had knee replacement surgery, and I am her therapy coach, in addition to being THERE during her surgery ( of course!! ). A very, VERY beautiful woman, Cassie Amos, plays my wife during the shoots. Hey Cassie!! We have already finished one of the shoots. This will only be shown at the hospital, but it should be available on the St. Joseph Mercy -Oakland County website. I’ll let you guys know when I get all the details.

On a sad note: We lost one of the cast members since the production ended. Randy Godwin, who plays the character, ‘Thomas Shuler’ in the movie. Randy is a local actor/playwright from Milford. Randy passed last month at the age of 50. My condolences go out to his family, friends and loved ones.

SPEED TRAPS REVISITED:\

Came across an article in the newspaper last month about traffic fines helping cities fill up their coffers.   Umm-m-mmmmm… EXCUSE ME!?? But yours TRULY, the Georgester, did a piece on that right HERE , on this BLOG at the beginning of this year.

Amazing it took the paper THIS long to not only do a story on this topic, but to also get the PRESIDENT of the Police Officers Association of Michigan  to ADMIT that more & more officers ARE being …how you say? “ENCOURAGED” to write moving violation tickets…..

SPEEDING people…  ……SPEEDING!

 I recall back then, when I wrote that blog, I might have mentioned that a GOOD way to remedy that, and NOT help these little communities pay for a new copy machine, or police headquarters building, is to slow your asses DOWN! But, i know that aint’ ever gonna happen, so I gave you a website that tells you EXACTLY where those sneaky speed traps are. I don’t recall whether the newspaper article gave that site out, but I’ll post it, NOT because I’m encouraging you to BREAK-THE-LAW…(many of you DON’T NEED my encouragement to DRIVE EXCEPTIONALLY fa-aa-a-a-a-ss-s-sst…know what I’m sayin’?).  But, when I see places like Plymouth with the highest percentage of tickets written between 2002-2007?  I think there’s something wrong about that!  Plymouth was at 487 %, followed by River Rouge, at 363 %, Sylvan Lake, at 322 %, Lathrup Village, at 240 %.  Those numbers are obscene!!  Now, the ARGUING-AGAINST side will say….”the number of traffic deaths because of speeding ..is obscene”.  Hold it right there, wait a minute, wait a MIN-U-ETTE!!  A good portion of driving accidents are caused by drunk drivers, and NOW? the ‘New Millineum’ drunk driver…..?  >>>> Is the DISTRACTED — ( yappin’ on the cell phone…mostly) …driver.  But, here’s a STERN warning: The National Motorists Association say METRO DETROIT has the MOST SPEED TRAPS in the U.S., as of in 2007!!   In the entire U-S of A people!!     Are you GETTIN’ THIS??  I have lost count as to how many times I have the DOORS BLOWN OFF the Buick, by stunt drivers on our freeways, and, sadly…. our surface streets, by those in a perpetual HURRY!   Here’s the deal.  You, my friends,  don’t HAVE many options on this!  You will either SLOW-THE-HELL-DOWN!? or…..you’ll get nailed speeding through one of our fine little municipalities. It’s your choice!!   Happy motoring!!

BIG THREE BAILOUT, BRIDGE-LOAN, BRIDGE CARD, HAND-OUT…whatever! :

                              

It has been no secret that our domestic automakers have been hemorrhaging $$$ for awhile now, and without getting into ALL the suspected reasons why, I thought I would bring it to you like this.   Remember, at the near-beginning of this whole bailout thing, when ONE of the MAIN reasons experts were saying GM, FORD, & Chrysler were struggling was because they went BUCK-WILD…. selling gaz-guzzling behemoths? (mostly trucks)  Well, has anyone taken a good look at the prices at the gas pumps recently?  It would seem to ME, that IF that were the reason for the economic downturn of the Big Three, then people should be almost TRAMPLING each other (like a BLACK FRIDAY shopper) to get their very own MONSTER TRUCK!!  right??  helloo-o-o-o-oooo ??   (echo!* echo!*). H-m-mmmm..maybe it WASN’T only that. Maybe the domestics had to really CONVINCE consumers that were at LEAST TRYING to join the 21st century, by putting more fuel-efficient, or more alternative energy-type vehicles on the road. That’s NOT to say the Japanese, or Europeans are getting it done any quicker, but it APPEARS to many that they ARE.  There are some great American made vehicles out there, but the overall IMAGE of the Big Three is still suffering from prior years. Shoot! in California ( where MORE people buy cars than in ANY other state), you would be hard-pressed to look in even a grocery store parking lot, and find a Big Three vehicle!!

So, this latest “UNFAIR”,  in my opinion,  over-scrutinizing of U.S. automakers by the legislators    >>   << should come as no surprise!  The financial institutions all get the equivalent of a Monopoly “Get out of Jail FREE” card for ‘effing‘ up, but the city of Detroit’s lifeblood, the Big Three, get grilled like a slab of ribs on the 4th of July!!  The original request for $25 billion (which NOW has been upped to around 34, 35 BILLION), is SO-O-O-O-O important to this region. I don’t think I have to tell anybody that!  But, there are STILL murmurs of some sort of bankruptcy deal reportedly involving GM and Chrysler.   DETROIT      My city, my hometown, cannot TAKE a major hit like that…plain and simple!  But, amazingly, it SEEMS as if some of those ‘crusty curmudgeons’ sitting on those House and Senate panels, wouldn’t MIND seeing Detroit become a ‘true’ ghost-town!  I have FAITH that the loans will be made, but more importantly, I have FAITH that the domestic auto makers will GET THEIR COLLECTIVE acts together and turn this thing around. It’s like everything ELSE going on with our lives in TODAY’S world (yes…….in RADIO too)..LEANER, MEANER, and SUPER-DUPER competitive!!  C’mon GM, FORD, Chrysler !!  You can DO IT!!    I KNOW you can!!

Spend IN DETROIT!  Spread it around, but give the city some love. There is a GRASS-ROOTS group called DETROIT SYNERGY, who for the past five years, have held a one day “SHOP DETROIT”  extravaganza.  This year, they extended the event to FOUR big days. There are (as of THIS writing),  THREE shopping days left on their schedule. 

 INCLUDING  >>>>   Saturday, December 6th,  Midtown Detroit, from 11am, until 4pm.   Shoppers will have access to a number of participating stores and boutiques, as well as the gift shops in the Cultural Center; including the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. 
Their FIRST extravaganza was held on November 29 in Downtown Detroit. And, there are TWO more planned for : December 13th, at the Russell Industrial Center, and the FINAL shopping extravaganza day will be : December 20th @Eastern Market.

THE LIONS:   

I don’t know what to say anymore. Whaddya want me to say? They’re HORRIBLE! just HORRIBLE! As bad as they ARE? We still love ‘em and want to see them ….um-mmmm? WIN a  g**d*mn game!!   But? Just as I said at the beginning of the season, shoot, I said this when SOME of you were LOSING your MINDS when they went unbeaten during preseason…(which, by the way, preseason games don’t mean POOP!), they would NOT be a good team! I THOUGHT that, AT LEAST they would squeeze out 3, maybe 4 wins?  But, they are going to make history (the wrong kind, mind you) and become the first (and probably …ONLY)  NFL team to EVER LOSE 16 GAMES in ONE SEASON!!  That’s right people OH! & 16!! The Lions CANNOT BEAT ANYBODY!! Their ORGANIZATION IS in SHAMBLES (thank you Matt Millen, ya NUMBSKULL!! ), Their players (with the exception of Calvin Johnson, Ernie Sims, perhaps this kid, Smith at running back) are incredibly untalented.  The Jury is still out on what Daunte Culpepper has left in the tank. I’m gonna give him the benefit of doubt by HIM being able to go through training camp next summer!  

 Did you all see the play the Tennessee Titans’ player made after he ‘glided’ through the Lions’ pathetic  ‘efense ( rii-i-i-ight, spelled it that way because we KNOW the Lions don’t play no ‘D’ ).   Dude runs it in …untouched, uninterrupted, looks at his watch, stops at Starbucks along the way for a cappucino coffee, makes a cell phone call, and casually places the ball into the end zone,  for a touchdown!!  Okay! maybe I over-embellished some of that, but you get my drift ?   This entire organization is an UTTER embarrassment.  I have a ….um-m-mm friendly ‘wager’ with our Marketing and Promotions Director, Maureen, that the Lions will NOT win a single game.  She…is holding out HOPE that they will. I’m planning on exactly WHERE I’m going to be treated to LUNCH!!

They have to start Kwame ‘EFFING’ Brown!! at center!!   No team with Kwame Brown in the starting lineup should expect to be hoisting the championship trophy next June…. know what I’m sayin’?  They get Antonio McDyess back this month…which will help….a little!  BUT???  Get a good look at a couple of players this season, ’cause THEY WON’T BE  rockin’ the Pistons’ Red, White and Blue for the ‘O9 -10 season. See ya ‘Sheed, it was cool while we had you! A-I ?? Hasta La Vista baby-boy!   !!   I’m just sayin’.

ONE MORE, ONE MOORE, ONE MO’  THING:

 I kept this pretty low-key for various reasons..(HONESTLY?  it was mostly because of the skittishness of others involved in this project)… But I was in ANOTHER movie, a short FILM/VIDEO a couple weeks ago, which was entered into the EAST LANSING FILM FESTIVAL.  The film, by Mitten World Productions, was written, produced, and ACTED in by a couple of my work colleagues, and shot right here in the Detroit area.  The short, FIVE MINUTE film is entitled .. “The Last Caller”.  Basically, I play the role of a radio talk-show host ( wow! THAT was a stretch!!), who gets OFFED by a crazed, stalker type person. The movie also featured a VERY convincing … Sandy Kovach, who had a part as a caller on my radio show.  How did the movie DO in the film festival??

We won “HONORABLE MENTION”, meaning, there were ONLY four other films that were deemed BETTER than ours!!  WAY TO GO Guys!!!  Next YEAR?? We GET the TOP Prize!!   It was a LOT of fun, and I really enjoyed working on it!

It’s  REALLY an UNBELIEVEABLE feeling to see a President of the United States –   LOOK like……ME!    —    

History, and ‘HISTORICAL’ occurances have been plentiful during my 51 years on earth!

The CIVIL RIGHTS movement  –  , Mankind taking the FIRST STEPS on the MOON  –    ….An African-American (we were called Negroes back then ) winning the coveted NOBEL    PRIZE   –  in 1964

……          I LOVE YOU MAN-N-N-N-N-N!!        << >>

     ….. Miles  –   because it’s COOL to have him in this mix baby!   Oh!, and him too    –    Coltrane, Avant- Garde Jazz Legends–BOTH. 

Never saw HIM play?    but, MAN-N-N-N-N-N…did he EVER CHANGE the face of America?    

The Kennedys   –  JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY    the first (and ONLY) Roman Catholic ever elected as U.S. Chief Executive, and a beloved president. His brother, Robert Francis Kennedy    a U.S. Senator, social advocate and who MANY felt would have been President, had he not been gunned down as his brother was, five years prior, 1963 – those were DARK DAYS for our country during the 60’s ….along with the assasination of Martin Luther King in 1968, nearly two months, to the day BEFORE Robert Kennedy!!

These guys …  …..THE BEATLES, because they helped bridge gaps, and CHANGE the music world….  much as our very OWN  –      did. They both had plenty of SO-O-O-OU-U-U-L-L-L !!  But , the Beatles NEVER appeared on SOUL TRAIN!!   But, EVERYBODY…. ALL …danced like US on this show… Thank you Don Cornelius!

I experienced the world of  THIS man…  ..In case you don’t recall? Stevie OWNED the GRAMMY AWARDS throughout the 70’s!! Yeah, he set all kinds of records, unheard of before him. I worked for him at his Los Angeles radio station –KJLH (1989-93).  I was TRULY inspired to hone my ‘creativity’ while in his prescence. He led the crusade to create legislation for a NATIONAL HOLIDAY for this African-American icon   –   

I got the opportunity to experience an Olympics (the 1984 Summer Games) while living in Los Angeles .. [ not WORLD HISTORY, but significant for me? ] ……….

 They (Denzel Washington and Halle Berry), are the only people of color to be named “Best Leading” Male & Female actors during the 74th Annual Academy Awards in 2002…. speaking of actors?       He >>  RONALD REAGAN.. our 40th President. The FIRST ACTOR?? to become President. In 1980, he registered a mandate for change in our country at a time when our country and the world screamed for it. The “Great Communicator”.

The birth of my son [ 1995 ] …  I LOVE YOU for infinity – JUSTIN RICHARD GEORGE MOORE…..

I “FELT”  ——->>> ALL these things while standing in the newsroom of our sister station, Newsradio 950, WWJ on election night. I began to get emotional while watching on the monitors, that AMERICA had elected an African American as its President.  One of my work colleagues, WWJ News anchor, Patty Vitale, asked me…”are you tearing UP George?”. I turned to her and said…..” I NEVER thought I’d SEE this happen!”   I only WISHED ( as, I’m almost CERTAIN, MANY also felt), that my parents; Charles and Margaret, had lived to see it. Also, my grandparents, Richard and Kate, and Elizabeth and Frank had also lived to see this historical event! 

There, of course, is so much MORE that I could recount, and attach to my emotions of that night!   Like, being about 6, or 7 years old, and at a grocery store with my mom in 1960’s Lincoln Park, and turning around in disbelief, shock, anger,  and …yes some pain,  after being called the “N” word……be a young Caucasian girl….YOUNGER than ME!!  By being HIT in the LEG with a FULL and unopened bottle of beer,  from a moving car  filled with young caucasian men, while waiting…for the bus… NEAR my home !! shortly AFTER one of the ….’RACE RIOTS’ at Cody High School in 1974!  Then, going into work at the ‘old WDRQ (yep! back when it was ACTUALLY a GREAT radio station), and telling ANYONE who would listen …how ANGRY I was, while SHOWING them my SWOLLEN left shin where the beer bottle hit me, and exclaiming that …”I’m GONNA get EVEN”. And a work colleague —[ now a popular morning radio co-hostess on a Detroit Classic Rock station], telling me…”No you’re NOT George, just calm down!”. Experiencing NOT ONLY the 1967 Detroit riots, but the 1992 Los Angeles riots after the Rodney King verdict. Watching the anger and violence unfold, and the BURNING BUSINESSES all around me??, but NO ONE touching the building where Stevie’s radio station was !!  Yep! I shed a tear, because I have lived and experienced all those things.  I SHED A TEAR!

It is no secret the job of President of the United States makes people….really….AGE? The pressures of the position, the HOURS one has to keep, the IMPACT of SO MANY resting squarely on your shoulders. Our President elect is about my age, he’s 47 years old, I’m 51. I just HOPE the rigors of the gig doesn’t turn our president from ….THIS >> 

 to….THIS  >>>     GASP!!!    Okay! okay! I’m NOT talkin’ about the skin tone, or the ‘charming-good-looks’  [ clearing throat ] we BOTH share…[ GAG! ] I’m talking about the GRAY stash!!  His tough work is cut out for him, and it has taken its toll on MANY of his predecessors!   We’ll see.

I recently got a call to audition for a part in a commercial for television, and pictures for print ads for a large local hospital, West Bloomfield location.   Read the BLOG below and see the pictures. I’ll talk about some other stuff too.

 LATE OCTOBER BLOG :
Shooting A Television Commercial With Mr. Woodley 

Well, friends, I recently auditioned through the talent agency I’m signed with (TALENT SHOP) for a role in a photo shoot / Television commercial for HENRY FORD HOSPITAL, West Bloomfield location.  Yeah, I GOT the part!  I wind-up playing a granddad  (yeah, ME!!), taking his grandson out on a lake to fish for the first time. The ‘theme’ for the ad campaign ‘appears’ to be, getting out-being active, relaxing, being as STRESS FREE as possible. Fishing in a quiet, serene setting with your grand kids, or taking a nice brisk hike! With my activity, you’ll see me wearing a wristband that will say “stroke prevented”.  The premise being that you’ll REDUCE the chance for serious health issues by TAKING CARE of your self.  Now, I say ‘appears’ because I don’t really know if that is exactly what the ad campaign entails, it’s just a guess.  The part of my eager and absolute adorable grandson was played by Mr. Levi Woodley, a 7 year old local child, who was accompanied by his proud mom, Sucre ( soo-CREE). Of course, young Levi was THEE STAR of the show!!  We shot the scenes, on location, at the Bald Mountain Recreation area, in Lake Orion, at Lower Trout Lake.  Levi and me really hit it off, and bonded almost instantly.. ( the little fella was just as charming as the most experienced actor ). As I did costume changing in the outhouse/wardrobe room  (lol!),  the crew got the row boat ready at the dock, and the cameraman set up the angles, while we (Levi and me) got geared up (with life jackets, and our warm clothing, because it was ….C-C-c-c-c-c-old   out there at 8-ish in the morning!!    Of course, there were a LOT of director’s …..um-mmm..directions?   ”Stop!” …. “do it THIS way!”….George? hold your arm out that way!”, “Levi? look up at your granddad and smile”  Of course, we do what the directors tell us.  Now, understand THIS…..I KNOW how to row a boat? okay!?  It has just been a…uh-hhh… few years!?  But I managed to get the boat right where they wanted it in the lake. And? after the 1st couple of oar strokes? I was good with what I was doing.   Anyway, we go through all of the director’s orders, different angles, trying to get just the right ‘natural light’…( and? MAN it was beautiful and picturesque out there).  Well,  the pictures will give you a better idea of what I’m talking about!

We had a great breakfast-lunch, catered by Mr. Craig Justice, then finished the shoot, with  ’still’ shots from in the boat, while it was docked at the boat-slip. We did more close-ups of Levi and his gramps..(the focus was on my blue wristband …it was amazing how much detail was given to getting the ‘angle’ of it on my wrist…just right….again, & again, and again, and again……yaw-w-w-w-w-wwn-n-nnnnn!*      . But you know?  the people who DO this know what they’re doing and HOW to do it.  And, I have the utmost respect for how they make it look just right!   We got done with our part  (there was another group of actors coming in for the second part of the shoot ), and it was time to pack-up and say goodbye!  As I was heading back to the Buick, I passed by Levi’s mom’s vehicle. I waved at them, the rear window rolled down, and young Mr. Woodley pleasantly said….”goodbye granddaddy!”   ( I swear, I nearly turned into a blob of melted butter —–      .   Yep! Young Mr. Levi Woodley was THEE STAR of the day!

FLAVA FLAV’s TELEVISION SHOW:        

OH MY GAWD!!  The title of the show is “Under One Roof”, starring rapper Flavor Flav of Public Enemy fame.  I happened to ’stumble’ upon it while zipping through the TV channels recently. And, I don’t know WHAT made me STOP and watch it?  The show is on the very ‘youth-oriented’ MY  Network.  Near as I can figure, the show is about Flav (William Drayton Jr.) who moves in with his rich, and NERDY brother… and his brother’s caucasian girlfriend (so, these two could NOT be any more DIFFERENT?). I’ll cut to the chase. The episode that I stumbled on featured a guest role by character actor ‘Tiny’ Lister…(you know the guy? big muscular dude with ‘crazy’ eyes. He USUALLY plays big, brawny, muscle bound, but not necessarily bright guys..he played a character named ‘Zeus’ in some Hulk Hogan movie…years ago, and is frequently on TV in roles similar to what I just described).

    <<<<<    HIM!!!

Anyway, this particular episode Tiny comes to visit Flav and his brother after getting out of prison, where HE and Flav were…ummm-mm cell mates?   So….yeah! ye-e-eah! there were the requisite prison jokes about prison life, intimate innuendo, and more brainless dialogue. Oh!  and ( so it SEEMS in the last 10 years or so)  every show labeled a comedy has the usual “damn”,  “b*tch”,  “a** ”  word tossed in among the absolute HORRIBLE script and storyline!   People? this show is BAD!!, I mean BA-A-A-A-A-AD! (and I don’t mean BAD-good!) Hear me?   OH! the brother ALSO has a very stereotypical Asian (Chinese, I think) housekeeper, who manages to get in some dumb lines as well.  I swear, I could just feel my ‘intelligence’ just OOZING OUT of my head while I watched this piece of garbage. Just as I felt myself begin to ‘BLANK-OUT’ from this mindless jibberish?  I managed to HIT THE CLICKER and ESCAPE!!  After I regained my FULL senses, and mopped-up some of the BRAIN MATTER that left my head, I just KNEW I had to blog, and WARN  —  ANYONE, with a SPECK of brain, about how HORRIBLE this show is.  And, let’s not get this twisted ..FLAV?… aint any PARTS of an actor!!  He delivers his lines (which, in this episode and I’m sure OTHERS? are just as lame as EVER).  Wanna know the real killer?  I bet you 700 Billion-million dollars that the knuckleheads who write the show weren’t even BORN when Flav and Chuck D. and crew were at their height of fame. And did you all even know (or care) Flavor Flav is damn near 50 years old!!  Yep!  he was born in 1959!!!!  Man! this HAS to be THEE WORST television show ever! Yes, worse then “My Mother the Car”.  Worse than “Supertrain”. Worse  than nearly any FOX Network show from their days of infancy!!  (remember “Herman’s Head”??) I just had to share this with you guys!   I have more…coming.

Yeah, that’s the word people!!  Don’t get me wrong…. I love Evander Holyfield…he is one of the great boxers of our time. But……? dang Evander!!  aren’t you about 111 years old??

And Now? the very FIRST local BLACKOUT of a home game at Ford Field since it opened around EIGHT years ago -(October 26 versus the Washington Redskins–a team the LIONS have NOT beaten since Dwight Eisenhower was sinking putts in the oval office of the White House!). So, obviously, the ‘luster’ of Ford Field has worn OFF,  and LIONS’ believers/sufferers/faithful, are just going to find something ELSE to watch on TV on Sundays, or do something elsewhere.  Yes, there will be MORE blackouts, because people are going through very, VERY tough times everywhere, but ESPECIALLY this area, and they are NOT going to dig DEEP and pay BIG money to see such a WRETCHED team as this!  The fan ‘APATHY’ will REALLY hit home in about a month, when the LIONS’ annual Thanksgiving Day game does NOT…..repeat …DOES NOT sell out, and is also BLACKED OUT!!   Yeah people…the UNTHINKABLE could happen, which will also be ANOTHER major embarrassment for this entire organization. We, the residents and long-time supporters of this mess should NOT be embarrassed, HELL, it aint OUR fault this thing is so ‘EFFED-up’. It will take a LOT of fixing to straighten out, but…be ASSURED that [ IF ] they do?  We’ll come back.  I’m tellin’ you, if the LIONS ever get really GOOD, and stay that way??  This city would be UPSIDE DOWN, INSIDE OUT, and Round & Round!!  << (okay! Okay! so, I borrowed from Diana Ross, but you feel me on that …right!?)  Dave Bing? Penske? anybody??  You guys ought to just pool your money together, bring in a couple MORE dudes with a LARGE cache’, and just walk into the old man’s office, and say….”Give us the team”  HERE!!   here is a BILLION…give US the team, and have a nice day!”  –    I KNOW either of them would run this organization better than it HAS been run for the last….oh-hhhh …50-PLUS years! 

I mean, you have to be an absolute CRO-Magnon       …NOT….. to be a successful NFL franchise!!  The league is set-UP for teams (who do it right) to contend EVERY season! You can finish 8 & 8, and make the playoffs!!  I just wonder IF me….( in my 50’s) is EVER gonna see this team at LEAST.. playing in a Super Bowl.  I KNOW my dad Charles (rest his soul) wishes HE had!

I am sometimes asked why I sign-off this blog, and my ‘Doin’ the “D” videos with….

“PEACE”.  It’s just something I’ve done from my days as a ‘Hippie’ Okay! okay! that’s not it.  I just believe in ‘Peace’. It’s always, GENERALLY been how I leave my listeners/viewers. Peace-fully. I actually did that (for the first time while on the radio), back in 1977, on my last show on the ‘old’ WDRQ (when it was a GOOD station, and actually had air personalities!), before I left Detroit. It has just stuck with me. Wha’ can ah say?
